MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. -

A Reading man is in custody after officials said he stole nearly $7,500 worth of tools and equipment from a former Berks County restaurant.

Police said Michael Lee Rothenberger, 34, of 533 Linden Street, broke into the old Crab Barn Restaurant last October and took the tools, which he then sold to a pawn shop.

The restaurant, located at 2613 Hampden Blvd., Muhlenberg Twp., was undergoing renovations, and owner Michael Rhodes reported to police that 53 pieces of tools and equipment were stolen during a robbery on Oct. 29, 2012.

Several of the stolen items were identified by Rhodes at Capital Cash Exchange Pawn Shop.

Rothenberger and his then roommate, Ryan Engle, stole the items to sell for drug money, Engle told police.

Rothenberger is charged with burglary, criminal trespassing and receiving stolen property.
