READING, Pa. -

Students at Northeast Middle School in Reading celebrated Earth Day on Friday.

The school's environmental club put together a big day at the school with workshops and plenty of work outdoors.

Sixth and seventh grade students planted flowers and bushes around the school. They also helped station some trash cans for the city's "Can It" program.

"We made 108 cans become lively with the different colors of the schools and the different pictures you see, and what they're gonna be is, they're gonna be hopefully cutting down the trash that we see on 13th Street," said David Renninger, environmental club adviser.

The Can It program stands for Clean a Neighborhood in Town and was founded by Wood to Wonderful in the city.
