Pinwheels represent thousands of Berks children safe from abuse
Pinwheels are being used to commemorate April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Berks County.
The 250 pinwheels, in the shape of a ribbon, have been placed outside the Berks County Services Center in downtown Reading.
Each pinwheel represents 10 children who are safe from abuse because of the county's children and youth services agency. It's a display employees are proud of.
"It's as much about acknowledging the work of staff this time of year who, as you many know, are often criticized for the work they do because this work isn't largely understood by a lot of people," said George Kovarie, executive director, Berks County Children and Youth Services.
Officials said they helped facilitate 129 adoptions last year.
