Police are not letting up on their search for a Reading man who allegedly left another man dead in the middle of a street this past weekend.
Detectives are looking for Luis Ramos in connection with the crime, which occurred Saturday morning at South Fourth and Chestnut streets, police said.
Ramos' last known address was in the 900 block of Franklin Street in Reading, investigators said.
"Our efforts right now are to determine if he's still in our area," said Capt. Damond Kloc, Reading Police Dept. "So if he has fled anywhere in the nation, we'll be after him."
This homicide is just one of 15 homicides, not including vehicular homicides, that occurred in the city in 2012.
Thanks to a rising trend, it may not be long before Ramos is captured, officials said. It turns out more and more residents are calling Crime Alert Berks County.
The non-profit organization allows tipsters to give information anonymously and walk away with thousands.
On average, they are paying out about $1,000 a week in reward money, officials said.
"We don't get any pay for this, but what we do get is satisfaction because our program has been so successful," said Barry Rohrbach, president and founder, Crime Alert Berks County.
Crime Alert, now in its 15th successful year, is prepared to give out thousands more in reward money during the new year, and police hope it will be enough to find people like Luis Ramos.
"People in the community are willing to stand up for what's right and what they believe is correct," said Kloc.
In light of the downsizing of several police departments across the region, officials said tip calls are more now crucial than ever before.
Anyone with information about Ramos' whereabouts can call Crime Alert at 877-373-9913.
