Police have arrested a man they said was caught on camera robbing at least one Citizens Bank branch in Reading.
Shannon DeGeorge was identified as the suspect seen in surveillance images robbing the Citizens Bank at North 9th and Spring streets last Wednesday, Feb. 6., police said.
Those images were subsequently shared on WFMZ.com and on 69 News, and while police said they received numerous tips from the public, the main tip that led to DeGeorge's arrest came from someone who saw the surveillance pictures on WFMZ.com.
DeGeorge, of Reading, was arrested Monday at North 9th and Windsor streets in Reading.
Police said they expect DeGeorge will also be charged in the robbery of the Citizens Bank at 830 Lancaster Ave. two days later, on Feb. 8. Reading police said they are also working with Lebanon police to determine whether DeGeorge is responsible for a robbery there on Monday.
In both holdups in Reading, police said a handwritten note was handed to a teller, demanding cash. DeGeorge got $3,750 in the first robbery, police said; the amount taken in the second holdup was not disclosed.
Police have not said whether they recovered any of the stolen money.
DeGeorge was recently released from prison, but the motive behind the recent robberies is unknown, police said.
