A Reading city councilwoman was among many people who were impacted by a hostage situation in Pittsburgh.
Councilwoman Marcia Goodman-Hinnershitz told 69 News she was kept inside the Wyndham Grand hotel while police worked to resolve the hostage situation in a nearby high-rise.
A gunman held one person hostage for several hours in a suite on the 16th floor of Gateway Center building Number 3, said Chief Nathan Harper, Pittsburgh Police Dept.
Police, who got the call around 8:15 a.m., identified the suspect as Klein Michael Thaxton. He surrendered shortly before 2 p.m.
Goodman-Hinnershitz said she has been in Pittsburgh since Tuesday for a conference relative to her work as the director of planning and resource development for the Council on Chemical Abuse.
The conference, she said, continued inside the hotel, although no one was allowed to leave the building for safety reasons until the standoff was resolved.
