Realtor.com ranks Reading #2 market in US to buy a home
While Reading may be one of the poorest cities in the country, it's also a great place to buy a home, according to Realtor.com.
The online home for the National Association of Realtors found Reading to be the second best market in the United States to buy a home, based on price and availability.
The median listing price for a home in Reading is $173,700, and the average home spends 149 days on the market, according to the website's findings.
"Home prices in Reading remained fairly stable during the boom and bust markets, falling only about 10 percent from peak to trough," according to Realtor.com. "That makes house-hunting practically pressure-free for buyers, who don't have to worry about soaring -- or plunging -- values."
Southern South Carolina topped the list of best markets to buy a home. Santa Fe, N.M.; Asheville, N.C.; and Portland, Me., rounded out the top five.
