School program promotes inclusion among students
A teenage girl who was born with permanent brain damage is touching the lives of others throughout our area.
Mikayla Resh and her mom, Kimberly, visited students at Monocacy Elementary School to talk about the importance of not leaving anyone out. They shared the book "Our Friend Mikayla," which was written by kids who were in Mikayla's class when she became included in her school's regular education program.
A foundation established in Mikayla's name presents inclusion programs to schools throughout the area.
"A disability isn't such a big deal if you answer all the kids' questions, and once they understand, kids have always been very accepting of Mikayla," said Kimberly Resh.
Mikayla and her mom presented a similar program a short time later at Daniel Boone Middle School.
