Serious accident closes Route 422 West in West Reading

A serious accident closed a stretch of Route 422 West -- the West Shore Bypass -- in West Reading during the height of the evening rush hour.

The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of the Buttonwood Street Bridge.

Initial reports from the scene were that three vehicles were involved in the accident and that a woman may have been ejected from one of the vehicles.

The westbound lanes of Route 422 were closed between the Penn Street/Penn Avenue and the North Wyomissing Boulevard interchanges while police investigated the accident and crews cleared away the wrecked vehicles.
