READING, Pa. -

Some young women are taking a stand against bullying among their peers.

Thirty-one students in 6th through 8th grades participated in a 2-day workshop on leadership development and civic engagement, sponsored by the Junior League of Reading.

The workshop culminated in the creation of a public service announcement on bullying, for which the students spent four Saturdays in March developing the concept of the PSA, creating the positive messages the girls wanted to convey and recording the video.

The students' message, organizers said, is directed at middle and elementary school-aged children with the goal of building the self-esteem of their peers and reducing bullying in their schools.

The Junior League will host a premiere screening of the PSA, titled "Break Free from the Mean," on Saturday from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Reading Public Library.

The video will then be distributed for use among schools and youth service organizations in Berks County.
