State and local officials will meet next month to tackle Reading's problems with crime and violence.

Officials with state Senator Judy Schwank's office say the meeting will be held January 18th.

No word on where the meeting will be.

Lawmakers have been trying to organize a summit in response to the violence in the city.

Police say there have been 18 homicides so far this year, not including vehicular homicides.

Just last week two young men were found shot to death on Franklin Street.
