Volunteer fire ambulance companies awarded state grants
HARRISBURG, Pa. -

First responders in Berks County are splitting more than $250,000 in state grant money.

Seventeen volunteer fire companies and ambulance associations will get a share of $246,000.

"Since 97 percent of firefighters across the Keystone State are volunteers, the vast majority of Pennsylvanians rely on these organizations for fire protection and basic emergency response services," said Pa. Rep. David Maloney, a Republican who represents the state's 130th District.
