A 12-year-old bloodhound from Douglass Twp., Berks Co., has been missing for more than a week.
Duke originally went missing from his home on the morning of Fri., March 8, according to Steven Shaner, the dog's owner.
"He was let out to do his business. I think he wandered off and might have gotten confused," Shaner said. "He's wandered off before, but he's always came back, never been gone more than six hours."
Shaner said his beloved dog is very hard of hearing, needs his medication and has been limping on his right front leg.
"He's also been acting confused, kind of dazing off. Then he realizes where he's at," said Shaner.
Since his disappearance, volunteers with Whispering Woods Animal Rescue and Search, based in Philadelphia, created a Facebook page to spread the news regarding Duke's disappearance.
"We've been out putting flyers out, posters and everything and we've been notifying everybody in the area to find him," said Michael Brady, a volunteer.
A woman delivering newspapers early Saturday morning told the family she spotted Duke on Creamery Road, Brady said. A woman driving a silver SUV noticed Duke and placed the dog in her vehicle, according to the family, which is now trying to find the woman.
"I miss him," said Shaner.
At this time, authorities said they have not received any reports of Duke being found. Shaner said his family just wants its beloved dog back home.
"Ultimately, he doesn't have much time left and we just want to spend what time we have with him," said Shaner.
