A sophomore at Kutztown University found herself looking down the barrel of a handgun after two men with guns invaded her apartment.
Brittany Heimbach told 69 News she experienced the fear of her life Thursday afternoon inside her off-campus apartment.
"I was very shaken up, very scared and called the police and they came right away," said Heimbach, whose nerves were still rattled and her sense of security shattered.
Just before 1 p.m. Thursday, two men armed with guns burst into her apartment and made a beeline for her bedroom, she said.
"From what I remember I just saw the one guy with the gun, he had a black mask and black shirt on," said Heimbach.
It happened in the 500 block of Briar Circle South inside the Briar Cliff Community, about a half-mile from campus. Heimbach said she was getting her laundry in her bedroom and when she turned around the two men had the guns pointed at her, but when they realized she was a girl they bailed out.
"I let out a shock like I was scared and then before I had a chance to say anything they were gone," she said. "I don't think they wanted anything but a different person, they were looking for someone else.
Heimbach's roommate, Meg Ellerbusch, heard the screams from upstairs. She said their apartment was broken into last fall, and now they want to move so it doesn't happen again.
"We're all freaked out and don't want to be here," said Ellerbusch.
Both girls said they have no idea why their apartment was targeted. They said they saw the two men get into a black BMW and drive away.
The university has been notified and they're monitoring the situation, said officials.
According to police, the investigation is ongoing.
