READING, Pa. -

The days are numbered for a bus route between Reading and Lebanon.

BARTA's board of directors, citing "extremely low" ridership, voted Wednesday to discontinue the service, effective Jan. 31, 2014.

The route averages two passengers per hour, said David Kilmer, BARTA's interim executive director.

The service was launched Sept. 9 on a trial basis involving a partnership between BARTA and Lebanon Transit (LT).

BARTA operates the route between the newly renovated Franklin Street Station in downtown Reading and the LT Transfer Center, with stops in Womelsdorf and Myerstown.

LT buses travel between the transfer center and the Capitol Complex in Harrisburg, with stops in Annville and Palmyra.

The express fare to and from Lebanon is $4. It costs an additional $2 to travel to Harrisburg.
