READING, Pa. -

The Berks County Commissioners have voted to expand the hotel room tax.

By a vote of two-to-one, the commissioners decided to add a five percent occupancy tax to all hotels in Berks.

Originally, the tax applied only to hotels within a 15-mile radius of the Sovereign Center.

Supporters said the move will generate more than $300,000 each year.

Commissioner Mark Scott voted against the plan. He said the tax will hurt hotels outside the radius.
