A Berks County sheriff's deputy, responding to the report of a robbery in progress, managed to nab the suspect just moments after the holdup.

Officers were dispatched at 11:41 p.m. Tuesday to the Sunoco A-Plus convenience store in the 1500 block of Lancaster Avenue.

Dispatchers provided them with a description of the suspect and the clothing he was wearing, as well as his direction of travel, said police, adding that the man fled east on Lancaster Avenue with cash and a few packs of cigarettes.

A Berks County sheriff's deputy was traveling west in the 1200 block of Lancaster Avenue when he spotted a man matching the suspect's description. The deputy managed to detain the suspect until Cumru officers arrived.

The suspect, identified as Nathan Koneman, 35, of Cumru Township, was charged with robbery, theft and related offenses.
