OLEY TWP., Pa. -

The Oley Valley School District has once again been dealt a devastating blow, two days before the end of the school year.

A student died of injuries he suffered in an accident Tuesday night, police said Wednesday.

School officials said Greg Hilbert, of Ruscombmanor Twp., was a junior. According to police, he died Wednesday after the bizarre crash in Ruscombmanor the day before.

"It's a really unexpected event. You don't want it to happen to anybody, let alone a friend," said Evan Styer, a classmate and friend of the victim.

Hilbert was standing on the bumper of a Jeep filled with three other people while it was moving along Augusta Lane in the Golden Oaks development, said police.

Hilbert reportedly fell off and hit his head on the road. His classmates remembered his passion for music and called him the resident guitarist.

"He would walk around with the guitar and he'd be strumming the guitar in the hallway. It was always something that made people smile, it was great," said Styer.

"He was really a cool guy, I mean anybody could get along with him," said Brandon Fuhrmann, a classmate who was set to work on his senior project with Hilbert.

Seniors at the high school are set to graduate Thursday, and the last day of class for students is Friday.

It's a time students should be celebrating, but instead they are hit again with tragedy. School officials said Hilbert is the third student that has passed way since Christmas.

Students called it a recurring nightmare that won't end. According to the superintendent, two former superintendents also passed away this school year, and Jarett Yoder, a 2005 graduate, was killed in Afghanistan in April.

On Wednesday, students said the pain could be seen and felt throughout the building.

"A lot of people were crying and it was just depressing all around," said Courtney Barrett, a student at the high school.

"There's no getting used to it. It's just so unpredictable. It's a terrible thing," said Styer.

Police are investigating the accident, and an autopsy on Hilbert is set for Friday.
