A man is now in custody for intentionally causing a crash that killed the driver of another car in Reading last year, police said.
Bradley Wolfe surrendered to authorities at District Justice Stuart Kennedy's office in Reading shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday. He was subsequently committed to the Berks County Jail without bail.
Wolfe's lawyer, Allan Sodomsky, said they were shocked to learn his client was being charged third degree murder.
"I discussed the matter with Mr. Wolfe," said Sodomsky. "Wolfe obviously denies any participation in any illegal activities. He's very sorry that anybody was hurt in the accident and is looking forward to his day in court as he denies the charges."
Wolfe, police said, drove his car head-on into another vehicle as he crossed the Bingaman Street Bridge on the afternoon of Sept. 5.
"I'm gonna drive right into the first car I see and kill us both," Wolfe allegedly told his wife, Jennifer, according to court documents.
Bradley Wolfe was involved in an unrelated assault case, and he and his wife had just left the courthouse prior to the crash.
"They were apparently arguing. This was a result of this argument," said Sgt. Matthew Schappell, Reading Police Dept.
The driver of the other car, Lance Quinones, 24, died at the scene. His 7-year-old stepdaughter was injured.
"I'm very sorry," Bradley Wolfe said when asked Wednesday if he had anything to say to Quinones's family.
Bradley Wolfe suffered severe injuries to his legs; Jennifer Wolfe suffered moderate injuries.
"He tried to kill us," Jennifer told paramedics who treated her, according to court documents. "He just went right for the car. We were going really fast."
Investigators estimated the Wolfes' car was traveling between 46 and 50 miles per hour when it crossed the center line and struck Quinones's car.
Wolfe, 32, of Sinking Spring, was charged with 3rd degree murder, attempted homicide, aggravated assault, homicide by vehicle, possessing an instrument of a crime, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and reckless driving.
