Construction to close I-176 in Cumru Sunday night into Monday morning
Work is part of 2-year, $14.7 million improvement project
An ongoing construction project will force PennDOT to close a stretch of Interstate 176 in Berks County for part of the weekend.
Both the northbound and southbound lanes will be closed from 8 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday while workers set bridge beams into place.
Drivers will be detoured onto Route 724, Route 10 and Route 422.
The work is part of a $14.7 million improvement project that began last August. It's expected to be complete in December 2014..
The improvements include reconstruction of the existing travel lanes; an additional collector/distributor lane in each direction for ramp traffic between Route 422 -- the West Shore Bypass -- and the Route 724 interchanges; partial reconstruction of the interchange ramps at Route 422; and construction of three new bridges over Route 422, the Norfolk Southern train tracks and the Thun Trail.
