Edwin Colon, New York City homicide suspect, arrested in Reading
A man being sought in connection with a gang-related homicide in New York City has been nabbed in Reading.
Edwin Colon was apprehended Wednesday afternoon inside 732 Thorn St., U.S. Marshals announced Friday.
Colon, 31, provided a gun to a man who pulled the trigger in the killing of Marco Cabral, 21, on May 20, officials said. He's facing charges of homicide, aggravated assault and related offenses.
Colon was also wanted by New York state authorities for a parole violation in connection with an earlier aggravated assault and attempted homicide, officials said.
Colon's family members told 69 News he came to stay with them in Reading a few weeks ago, but they said they had no idea he was a fugitive.
"I am disappointed with him," said his aunt, Carmen Colon. "I wish he would call and say, 'I'm sorry,' at least to his father, at least to his father, that he was sorry, but I don't think he's going to do it."
Colon is behind held in the Berks County Jail pending his extradition to New York City.
Deputy U.S. marshals with the Reading division of the service's violent crimes fugitive task force were assisted in the arrest by Berks County sheriff's deputies and New York Police Department detectives.
