UPPER BERN TWP., Pa. -

A massive fire destroyed a barn in Berks County on Sunday night.

Flames broke out around 10:15 p.m. at 56 Winterhill Rd. in Upper Bern Township.

One firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion, said Chief Gene Spotts, Shartlesville Fire Co.

About 1,500 large bails of hay were stored inside the barn, said Spotts, adding that the fire caused about $195,000 worth of damage.

Investigators have not yet determined what sparked the fire, but the cause appears to be accidental, Spotts said.
