Francisco Mercado Jr., tow truck driver, sentenced for stealing broken down cars
A tow truck driver who stole cars that were left disabled along Route 222 will be spending time behind bars.
Francisco Mercado Jr. was sentenced Monday to four to eight years in state prison and 10 years of probation.
Ten cars were stolen along a stretch of Route 222 in Berks and Lancaster counties, starting in July 2012, police said.
Lancaster police eventually set out a decoy car, which led them to Francisco Mercado, who was then employed as a tow truck driver for J&J Towing and Auto Repair in Reading.
All of the stolen cars were traced to a salvage yard and were sold for scrap.
