The freezing rain is wreaking havoc on transportation throughout Berks County.
In addition to numerous accidents on roads and highways around the area, the wintry weather prompted the suspension of BARTA bus service and the brief closure of the Reading Regional Airport.
BARTA began resuming normal operations around 10:30 a.m., but 90 minutes after the suspension of service. The agency advised its passengers to expect delays as service is restored.
As for the airport in Bern Township, arrivals and departures are underway again. Air traffic had been suspended because of icy conditions on all surfaces, according to an alert from Terry Sroka, the airport's manager.
Liquid deicer was applied to Runway 13/31 in an effort to increase the aircrafts' braking actions, Sroka said.
