The Reading Fightin Phils stepped up to the plate to help a Berks County teen who suffered a rare stroke to his spinal cord.
During Saturday night's game at FirstEnergy Stadium, the team was taking donations for the "Derrick Redcay Strong Fund."
Derrick, a senior at Muhlenberg High School, suffered a stroke last week and right now has no feeling or movement below his neck.
Derrick is active in the community as a baseball player and volunteer firefighter.
His aunt said he's in good spirits and he's a fighter.
"We're hopeful for recovery with the technology that's out there. We're going to take it day by day right now. Starting Monday, they are going to move him over to McGee Rehabilitation and they are going to start all kinds of therapy, so we're hoping for a good prognosis," said Kellie Redcay Spain.
Derrick's family and friends are also planning for a community day on June 14.
