Julio Angel Ortiz-Lugo arrested in deadly stabbing of Juan Carlos Lopez Bonilla in Reading
A tip has led police to arrest a suspect in the deadly stabbing of a man in Reading last month.
State police apprehended Julio Angel Ortiz-Lugo as he was getting into a vehicle in Fredericksburg, Lebanon Co., late Friday morning.
Julio Angel Ortiz Lugo didn't have much to say as he was being led out of police headquarters in Reading in handcuffs and shackles.
A tip on Ortiz-Lugo's whereabouts led troopers to the location, said state police, who noted that he initially traveled to New Jersey after the Nov. 17 homicide.
Ortiz-Lugo, 30, had been sought in the stabbing death of Juan Carlos Lopez Bonilla, 36, inside a home in the 500 block of Minor Street.
Ortiz-Lugo had resided in the home up until about a month before the homicide, said police, who were still working to determine a motive for the deadly stabbing.
To do it police say Ortiz-Lugo managed to break in through the second story window of the home.
Witnesses say the victim was staying at the home because he was protecting a woman from Ortiz-Lugo's alleged physical abuse.
It wasn't easy to find Ortiz-Lugo after the crime.
He led police on a manhunt that lasted more than a month, leaving neighbors in this close-knit community on edge.
"You're even afraid, sometimes, to go to bed at night because just like that, someone's going to come in your bedroom," Lisa Stankiewicz said.
"Everybody's shocked about it. Everybody's scared walking around and stuff like that," said Pedro Jaquez.
