Kutztown University is advising its campus community of some real-world exercises that are set to take place next week.
The university will test its mass notification system on May 20 with loudspeaker announcements and alert tones throughout the day so that staff can measure the volume and audibility of the system at various locations.
If it rains, the tests will be conducted on May 21.
Also on May 21, from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m., the Kutztown University Police Department and the Berks County Special Emergency Response Team (B-SERT) will be conducting active shooter training in the Golden Bear Village south complex and C5 parking lot.
"Multiple police personnel and equipment will be responding to campus for mock emergency drills to address different scenarios," according to a statement from the university. "The focus of the training is to hone a combined response effort among many county entities if an actual event were to occur."
Individuals not involved in the training are asked to avoid the area to ensure that the exercise is a success.
