Police in Exeter Township are investigating a bizarre abduction. They say a 41-year-old Reading man was abducted and held for 12 hours before being stabbed and left in Exeter Township. But police did not believe this was a random abduction. They think he was targeted.
Exeter Township Police are investigating a wild abduction that ended with a stabbing victim being dumped near West 37th Street and Circle Avenue in Exeter. Police say the 41-year old Reading man was abducted near 5th and Elm streets in Reading. The victim told police that he was approached from behind, a hood was put over his head, he was put in a vehicle and driven around for almost 12 hours.
"That area in Exeter Township is a residential area, generally very nice area of course. But the city of Reading is very close by so we often have incidents that originate in Reading and end up in Exeter," said Exeter Police Detective Sergeant Ted Lis.
But police say this was not a random attack. They believe the victim was targeted, possibly for retribution or something from his past.
"It was not random. There is a reason why he was the one picked up. So I do not want people to think there is someone out there stabbing people," said Lis.
The victim was transported to Reading Hospital. His injuries were not life threatening and he has been released.
At this time police do not have a description of the men, nor a description of the vehicle because the victim was blindfolded the entire time. Exeter Township Police plan on continuing the investigation with Reading Police to find the abductors.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913. A cash reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
