Mark Talbot, former deputy police chief in Reading, tapped for top post in Norristown
A former Reading Police Department veteran has been hired to lead the Norristown police force in Montgomery County.
Mark Talbot is set to take over as Norristown's new police chief later this month, officials said Friday.
Talbot joined the Reading Police Department in 1994, moving up through the ranks to become deputy chief in 2007.
Talbot left the force in August 2011 to take a job with the Pennsylvania Department of State as the director of the Bureau of Enforcement and Investigations.
Talbot takes over for Willie Richet, who is retiring after serving as acting police chief.
The Norristown force is made up of 68 sworn officers, including 55 in the patrol division, according to the department's website.
