A teenager wanted in connection with the killing of a man in Maryland has been arrested in Berks County, authorities announced Wednesday.

U.S. Marshals apprehended Matthew Mikowski at the Caron Foundation in South Heidelberg Twp. at approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Mikowski, 17, of St. Michaels, Md., was a patient at the facility, officials said.

Mikowski has been charged as an adult with second degree murder, reckless endangerment and second degree assault for the killing of Samuel Ives Cross, 18, in Talbot Co., Md., according to court documents.

Cross' body was found near his car on June 10.

"Cross, Mikowski and other acquaintances were together in an area behind Mikowski's house on June 9," Sgt. Marc Black, a spokesman for the Maryland State Police, told 69 News. "The evidence has led to indicate that the group may have been involved in using LSD."

Witnesses told investigators that Mikowski then restrained Cross around the neck until he died, Black said.

"An autopsy by the office of the chief medical examiner in Baltimore ruled the cause of death as asphyxiation, and the manner of death was homicide," Black said.

Mikowski is being held in the Berks County Jail without bail pending his extradition to Maryland.

Mikowski is the second fugitive from Maryland and the third from out of state to be arrested in Berks County in recent days.

U.S. Marshals apprehended Daniel Crook in Muhlenberg Township on Monday. Crook, 26, was being sought on a burglary charge in Maryland. He was committed to the Berks County Jail on $125,000 bail pending his extradition.

U.S. Marshals also apprehended Richardo Salgado-Marban on a farm in Robeson Township on Monday. He was being sought in the rape of a woman in Georgia, officials said.
