A man was killed in an accident that closed a stretch of Route 422 East in Berks County for the duration of the Friday morning rush.

An SUV and a tractor trailer collided around 5:30 a.m. on 422 East near Monocacy Creek Road in Amity Township, emergency dispatchers said.

The driver of the SUV, identified by the coroner as Royce Ochs, 65, of Adamstown, Lancaster Co., died at the scene, officials said.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

Route 422 East was closed between Monocacy Creek Road and Route 345 for more than five hours, reopening shortly before 11 a.m.
