Penn Street Market
READING, Pa. -

Foul weather or not, some people just can't resist the lure of fresh fruits, vegetables and baked goods.

The Penn Street Market in downtown Reading opened for the 2013 season Friday.

The weather wasn't so great for an outdoor farmers market, of course, but some folks still braved the rain to make a purchase.

The market will be open in the 800 Block of Penn Street every Friday from 10:30 a.m.
to 2:30 p.m. until October 4.

"I will be bringing strawberries, sugar peas, tomatoes -- both grape and regular varieties -- onions, spinach, lettuce and brown eggs,” said Glenn Hoover, of Reinholds, Lancaster Co., one of the market's vendors.

Also scheduled to be a vendor is beekeeper James Griesemer, of Wernersville, Berks Co. Along with honey products, Griesemer will be selling heirloom vegetables later in the season.

Free parking for people driving to the market is available in the 9th and Cherry streets lot. The market is also an easy walk from downtown offices and city neighborhoods.
