Pennsylvania grants Reading Regional Airport money for runway work
Pennsylvania is helping the Reading Regional Airport improve the safety of its runways.
The state has awarded the airport in Bern Township a $37,500 grant to remove runway obstructions, officials with Gov. Tom Corbett's administration announced Tuesday.
"Airports contribute to our communities’ economies and create thousands of jobs for Pennsylvanians," Corbett said. "This state support will help the airports continue operating safely and ensure that they can continue to meet business demands."
The state has awarded more than $2 million worth of grants to 18 other airports in Pennsylvania for safety enhancements and operation improvements.
The grants are distributed through PennDOT’s aviation development program, which is funded from the state’s jet fuel tax. They are administered by PennDOT’s Bureau of Aviation.
