Penske Logistics will manage the operation of a BMW parts distribution center in Northampton County, the Berks County-based company announced Tuesday.
The agreement calls for Penske Logistics to provide the 875,000 square-foot facility in Lower Nazareth Township with a trained labor force, starting July 1, officials said.
"We are pleased to further expand our existing relationship with BMW," said Marc Althen, president, Penske Logistics. "We are collaborating closely to ensure a smooth transition of the operations and in welcoming the employees into our organization."
Penske has worked with both BMW North America and the leadership of United Auto Workers Local 2326 to reach a labor agreement for the unionized workforce at the facility and a transition plan for the workers, officials said.
The facility, which opened in 2008, is BMW's largest parts distribution center in North America, supplying automotive and motorcycle parts and lifestyle items for distribution to BMW Group dealerships, officials said.
Penske Logistics, headquartered in Robeson Township, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Penske Truck Leasing.
