Sunday was the first day of this summer's Camp Cadet for Pennsylvania State Police Troop L, which covers Berks, Lebanon and Schuylkill counties.
It's the 29th year for the police academy-style camp, which is open to boys and girls ages 12 to 15.
Organizers said it's a great way to introduce kids to the career and build their self-esteem.
"At the end of the week, we do a lot of drill time and at graduation. They come marching into the field up at the top of the camp here," said Trooper David Beohm.
Cadets will see presentations by law enforcement, including bomb squad, SERT, patrol, K9, aviation and FBI, as well as non-law enforcement presentations, including water rescue and fire service.
Cadets also participate in marksmanship, swimming, horseback riding, volleyball, and kickball.
All camp activities are supervised by a staff of state and local law enforcement.
Candidates must reside in Berks, Lebanon and Schuylkill counties.
This year's Camp Cadet is at Camp Conrad Weiser at 201 Cushion Peak Rd. in South Heidelberg Township, Berks County.
The camp runs through Saturday.
