Police: Man found off Warren Street Bypass in Reading died of gunshot wound
Death being investigated by police, district attorney as homicide
Authorities investigating the death of a man found off the Warren Street Bypass in Reading have had one of their many questions answered.
An autopsy on Thursday determined that the man died of a gunshot wound to his upper body, said Sgt. John Solecki, Reading Police Dept., who declined to release any further information about the case, including the man's manner of death.
Police said Wednesday that evidence they gathered at the scene and from the man's body have led them to investigate the death as a homicide.
Investigators have also been unable to positively identify the victim, who had no form of identification on his person. A tentative identification is that of a Latino man who has lived in multiple states, Solecki said.
A motorist found the body in the grass off the River Road exit ramp from the westbound lanes of the Warren Street Bypass, also designated as Route 12, in the Riverdale section of the city early Wednesday morning.
Investigators said they have reason to believe that the man wasn't actually killed at that location.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913 or city homicide detectives at 610-655-6246.
