Police to be on lookout for impaired drivers on Berks roads

Weekend efforts to include roving patrols, sobriety checkpoints

Police in Berks County will be boosting their efforts to take drunk drivers off the roads in Berks County this weekend.

The North Central Regional DUI Enforcement Program will conducting roving patrols and sobriety checkpoints, officials announced Monday.

Checkpoints are typically conducted on highways that have high incidents of alcohol-related accidents and arrests, said David Bentz, North Central Highway Safety Network.

The DUI deterrence operations are funded through PennDOT and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said Bentz.

The North Central Regional DUI Enforcement Program equips, funds and coordinates municipal DUI enforcement in Berks, Columbia, Monroe, Montour, Northumberland, Pike, Schuylkill, Snyder and Union counties.
