Pork, sauerkraut a traditional meal for many on New Year's Day
There was plenty of feasting to be had on New Year's Day, and a holiday staple was on the menu.
Pork and sauerkraut was being dished out at a number of dinners in Berks County.
St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Robesonia hosted one of them. It was the 13th year for the event.
It's a win-win for everyone: Hungry patrons fill their stomachs, and the church fills its coffers.
"It's a fundraiser for the church," said Robert Dayhoff. "Anytime that the church runs in the red, we run some fundraisers to get the church back in the black so that we don't have any debt."
The Ruscombmanor Volunteer Fire Company also hosted a pork and sauerkraut dinner. It's been a tradition there for 26 years.
Organizers said they expected to serve around 800 people this time around.
