There is a group in Berks County focused on making Reading a better place. But, it needs your help.
Maria Santos and her family live in Reading. The home next door caught fire and left her home with a lot of smoke damage.
That is why volunteers traveled more than eight hours, from Vermont, to help her out.
"We really felt a calling to help those less fortunate than us," said Ehrin Koenig, volunteer.
The volunteers were helping to paint her living room on behalf of "Little Acts of Love."
It is a non-profit organization that has been operating in Berks County for four years and it has one goal in mind.
"We are focused on making Reading a better place," said Alice Moyer, Little Acts of Love Administrative Director.
Little Acts of Love is a home repair ministry that helps restore homes for elderly, physically disabled or low income homeowners.
"We all want to have that safe place to be in our own homes and if we can help them make it a safer place for them to remain there, than that is our goal and that will be achieved," said Moyer.
But the group cannot do the work and help restore Reading without the help of volunteers. That is why they are encouraging you to pitch in.
"Volunteering I think is the greatest thing any human can do. It is your way of showing your love for the community as well as God's love for people," said Koenig.
And the homeowner, Maria Santos, says she is extremely grateful for all the help and hard work.
"I really appreciate all the volunteers here to be in my house today. I would not be able to do it myself," said Maria Santos, homeowner.
