WEST READING, Pa. -

The falling temperatures have led to a rising number of people seeking treatment for weather-related illnesses and injuries.

Of the nearly 400 people seen by doctors at Reading Hospital's emergency room in West Reading between early Monday and Tuesday afternoons, more than 80 were there for weather-related issues, according to Dr. Charles Barbera, the chairman of the emergency medicine department.

Fifty of the patients were seeking treatment for flu-like illnesses while 26 were injured in some way by falling on the ice, Barbera said.

Other emergency room visits were for injures suffered in weather-related accidents and for exposure to the extreme cold.
