Reading Regional Airport has been awarded federal money to pay for upgrades to the Bern Township facility.

The $138,366 from the U.S. Department of Transportation will be used to rehabilitate the existing south taxi-lane pavement, which has reached the end of its useful life, said U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa.

"Reading Regional Airport is important to the region’s economy," Casey said. "This grant will allow the airport to improve its facilities to help ensure that it continues to be a safe and reliable hub of transportation for eastern Pennsylvania."

The airport averages 221 takeoffs and landings each day, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
