Reading Royals' Teddy bear toss, jersey raffle benefit Toys for Tots
The Reading Royals may have lost their fifth-straight game Sunday, but Berks County's Toys for Tots program scored big.
Fans threw some 1,700 stuffed toys onto the ice during the post-game Teddy bear toss at the Santander Arena in center city.
A post-game raffle of the players' ‘ugly holiday sweater’ special jersey also raised more than $3,000, a team spokesman said.
The stuffed toys and the money were handed over to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves' Toys for Tots program, which will provide Christmas presents to Berks County children in need.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the $399 jerseys is also being donated to Toys for Tots.
