The Reading School Board has selected the district's next superintendent, but it's not releasing his name.

Officials told 69 News on Tuesday that they will introduce the finalist, who still needs the board's final approval, at the school administration building on June 2.

The district's top post has been vacant since the board fired Carlinda Purcell last year, saying she wasn't able to get along with the members and didn't submit a balanced budget on time.

After her termination, the district turned things over to the Berks County Intermediate Unit, which has been working to establish a new curriculum and get the district's finances in order.
