An 18-year-old man is in jail after he attacked a counselor at a detention facility in Berks County, police said.
Levon Avery Washington and a minor resident at the Abraxas Academy hit Andrew Eaton on the head with a closed fist after signalling for other to attack facility employees, according to court documents.
The incident happened around 3:15 on Aug. 12 when several inmates began to clap their hands and signal for others to attack, officials said.
Eaton restrained one of the subjects and was himself attacked by Washington and another juvenile inmate before the situation was brought under control, according to court documents.
Eaton required treatment of his injuries, and he told police at least three residents had been planning the attack for several days.
Washington faces aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and intent to commit riot, assault by prisoner, and related charges. He was committed to the Berks County Jail on $20,000 bail.
