Robert Emerich, suspect in assault of store security guard, surrenders to police
A man being sought by police for allegedly punching a security guard in the face while trying to shoplift from a Sears store has given himself up.
Robert Brian Emerich surrendered to police on Wednesday. He's facing various charges, including retail theft, robbery and assault, police said.
Emerich, 40, left the Sears store at the Berkshire Mall in Wyomissing, Berks Co., on the afternoon of Aug. 15 with a power washer he didn't pay for, police said.
As a store security guard attempted to take Emerich's picture with her cell phone, police said he punched the guard in the head with his fist, knocked her to the ground and took the phone, leaving behind the power washer.
"Thanks to WFMZ for their help in getting the information out to the public, who responded with tips, leading to his identification and ultimately the arrest," said Chief Jeffrey Biehl, Wyomissing Police Dept.
