A Berks County man has been ordered to stand trial for allegedly stabbing both of his parents as they slept.

Robert Hausch was in court Tuesday for his preliminary hearing on charges that include attempted homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

Hausch used a 7-inch fixed-blade knife to stab both his mother and father in the neck as they slept inside their home on Dover Court in Caernarvon Twp., Berks Co., early on the morning of Dec. 30, police said.

The mother told officers who responded to the home that the attack may have been the result of an earlier dispute over the son's college grades, according to a police report.

In that report, the mother told police her son acted "very upset" after she confronted him about five failing grades he received earlier that week.

She told police she had been writing a letter to the college for an explanation just hours before the attack.

Hausch, 20, remains behind bars in the Berks County Jail on $100,000 bail.
