A member of the Exeter Township School Board is seeking election to a higher office.

Russell J. Diesinger has announced his bid for a seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives' 130th District.

"Our state faces a number of challenges that our legislature has failed to address," Diesinger, of Exeter Township, said in a statement released Monday night. "Pennsylvania's homeowners have been crying out for over 25 years for property tax reform. Our leaders in Harrisburg have ignored the pleas in deference to the influence of special interests against real property tax reform."

Diesinger is set to retire this month as a government and criminal justice teacher at Reading High School. Now in his fourth term in the Exeter Township School Board, Diesinger also serves as a regional director and county legislative liaison for the Pennsylvania School Boards Association.

The 130th House District, presently served by Rep. David Maloney, of Pike Township, consists of Amity Colebrookdale, District, Douglass, Earl, part of Exeter (Precincts 3, 6, 8, 9 and 10), Oley, Pike, Union and Washington townships and the boroughs of Bally, Bechtelsville, Birdsboro and Boyertown.
