Ryne Sandberg is returning to his roots in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

The Phillies' manager was announced Tuesday as the first guest to appear at the 2014 Phillies Winter Banquet in Wyomissing, Berks Co., on Jan. 21.

The Hall of Fame 2nd baseman played 129 games with the Reading Phillies in 1980 before being traded to the Chicago Cubs, where he played the remainder of his career.

Sandberg became the fourth Reading alum to manage the Philadelphia Phillies when he was promoted from being the team's 3rd base coach to replace Charlie Manuel this past season.

The banquet is the chief fundraising event for Baseballtown Charities, the Fightin Phils' non-profit organization that was founded to keep baseball alive in Reading.

Tickets for the event at the Crowne Plaza Hotel are available at the Fightin Phils ticket office or by phone at 610-370-BALL.
