READING, Pa. -

Officials with the Salvation Army of Reading said they have faith the organization's annual Red Kettle campaign will be a success, despite some challenges this year.

Thanksgiving was a week later than usual, and Berks County dealt with a lot of cold, snowy weather in December.

The bells will stop ringing for the season at 5 p.m. Christmas Eve. Officials said they hope to collect about $200,000 before then.

The money helps families in need pay for utilities, clothing, food and housing.
