Pennsylvania Sen. Judy Shwank paid tribute to America's military by laying a wreath at the state Capitol in Harrisburg on Monday.

The wreath, Schwank said, honors the memory of the soldiers who have died defending America's freedom and those who will not be home during the holiday season.

"Our women and men in uniform have our trust and our prayers for a safe return home once their tours of duty are over," said Schwank, who represents part of Berks County. "For those who have paid the ultimate price, laying a wreath is a solemn way to say we will never forget and will always be grateful."

The wreath-laying was a preview to the "National Wreaths Across America Day" this Saturday.

Monday's event was sponsored by the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association.
